Frequently Asked Questions
What is the curriculum focus for the Preparatory Division?
The curriculum emphasizes the formal start of classical ballet training. Students focus on skeletal alignment, external rotation (turnout) from the hips, and the development of strength in the feet and core, preparing them for more rigorous technique.
How many classes per week are recommended?
In the Preparatory levels, we recommend a minimum of two ballet classes per week. This frequency is essential for muscle memory and consistent progress in technique as students transition from recreational play to structured discipline.
When do students begin pointe work?
Pointe work usually begins in the Upper Division, following the mastery of Preparatory and Beginner foundations. Readiness is determined individually and based on sufficient foot, ankle, and core strength, usually around age 10-12..
Are there performance opportunities for this division?
Yes. Students in the Preparatory Division are invited to participate in our annual Spring Performance. Eligible students may also audition for various roles in the Northeast Atlanta Ballet’s professional productions, such as The Nutcracker and other productions.
